Current Progress

Today, the team at Bulk Games is sharing some exciting progress updates on the development of Area-47: Next Generation. We’ve been hard at work on various aspects of the game, and we’re thrilled to give you a glimpse into what’s coming.

From a build perspective, the map is nearly complete. We’re focused on delivering a unique, immersive environment that will set Area-47 apart from other games in the SCP genre. The new map is heavily inspired by its location, with several gameplay elements playing into the theme. While we’re not quite ready to share the exact details, we invite you to take a look at some of the map teaser images below.

Programming

As mentioned before, the game is being completely rebuilt and reprogrammed from the ground up. This has been a significant undertaking, but we’re making great progress. The new codebase is more efficient, scalable, and easier to maintain than ever before. This will allow us to implement new features and content more quickly and with greater stability.

As the map is nearing completion, our efforts will shift towards programming the various features and mechanics that will make Area-47: Next Generation a truly unique experience. This includes the new progression system, new morph systems, new UI, many interactions with the environment, and of course, the SCPs themselves.

SCPs

One of the most exciting aspects of Area-47: Next Generation is the new SCPs that will be featured in the game. We’re focusing on having several high quality SCPs with unique containment zones and gameplay mechanics.

Our next-generation SCPs will be built with our new Neuron system, which allows us to create more complex and dynamic behaviors for our SCPs. This means that players can expect more engaging and challenging encounters with the SCPs in the game. Additionally, Neuron will make updating and improving our SCPs much more streamlined, reducing the time it takes to implement changes and improvements.

Most of the SCPs in the game are still not quite ready for public release, but we wanted to share a couple of teasers with you. Please take a look at our interpretation of SCP-2316 “Bodies in the Water”.

SCP

Area-47: Next Generation will include SCPs that are not strictly based on the SCP Foundation’s canon. This allows us the opportunity to create SCPs that are unique to our game, while still maintaining the spirit and themes of the SCP genre. Shown below is a new SCP, designation pending, which is based off of SCP-993.

Timeline

We are still a ways out from release. As we wrap up the map and build, we shift our focus to gameplay mechanics, team development, morphs, weapons, and of course, SCPs. We will continue to share updates on our progress as we move forward, and we thank you for your continued support and patience.

A brief disclaimer…

Everything shown in this dev log, as well as previous dev logs, is still very much a work in progress. The game is still in development, and many aspects of the game are subject to change. The images and information shared in this dev log are meant to provide a glimpse into the development process and the direction we’re heading, but they do not represent the final product.
