Post 1 - Clean Slate

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since the development team has provided clear information about the future of our game, Area-47. In this post, we’re going to go over some information about what you can expect for A47 over the coming months.

First, it’s important to acknowledge how long we’ve been working on the current version of the game. While originally published in 2018, the game has had several revamps and rebuilds. Some of these involved completely rebuilding and reprogramming the game from scratch. The last time this happened was the release of the Revamp update in January of 2021 by lxuca and his team.

That version has been continuously updated, modified, and transformed over hundreds of updates. It has served us well over the past four and a half years. It has been a great foundation for us to bring you an experience you love.

Today, we’re officially announcing the largest update in Area 47 history. We’re completely rebuilding, reprogramming, and rethinking the game from the ground up. Roblox and the community have changed a lot in the past five years, and it’s time to show this IP’s full potential.

We’ll do our best to bring new features, gameplay, and enjoyment while making sure that we still have the original 47 DNA flowing through the game.

We’re still a bit early in our journey. We have developed the concept, started building the new map, and begun programming. What we can say is that the update will include:

• Several quality, highly testable SCPs with unique Containment Zones
• Brand new map, with a theme that is totally unique to the SCPF genre
• Complete overhaul of the progression system, providing plenty of replayability
• Significant emphasis on interactions with the map and environment around you

We’re still a long way away from being able to share more concrete information. More updates will come in due time, and we thank you for your patience.

When will this update release?
The release of this update is still months away, and there is no release date set.

When will we hear more information?
The questions from Discord will be answered within the next week. After that, it will probably be several weeks before we release more information.

What makes this update different from previous updates like Redux?
Since the release of Revamp in January 2021, all the major updates have been facelifts over old systems. This is a complete overhaul and on a different order of magnitude from the updates we have released since Revamp.

Why now?
We’ve hit a critical point where the technical and design debts we’ve accumulated over the past years are restricting us from building the best version of the game we can. It’s time to start again from a clean slate.
